The 4th Annual Portchester Caste 10k takes place on the 28th July, starting at 9.30am.
Below are the Race Day Instructions. These instructions contain important information for those taking part.
LOCATION – The race starts on the footpath into Castle Shore Park, which lies to the north of the castle, adjacent to the coastal path. The footpath is accessible from Castle Street, or from the Castle Main Car Park.
PARKING – We have been asked to request that runners and spectators avoid parking at the castle, instead they should use the main village car park, which is situated in Asshetton Court, off Castle Street. The Start/Finish is just a short walk from the car park. Parking in the main village car park is FREE. There also public toilets at the car park, with more toilets near to castle, in the main car park.
REGISTRATION – Race numbers should be collected from the Registration Point, on the field, near to the Start/Finish. Number collection will be open from 8am and will close promptly at 9.15.
TOILETS – As previously stated, there are toilets at the main village car park, as well as at the castle car park.
TIMING – The race is chip timed. The timing chips will be fixed to the back of the race bibs. It is essential that the race bibs are worn on the front of runners shirts/vests. If not, there is a risk of the chip not being read by the system. Results will be available live during the race and a link to the posted results will also be sent via SMS to all runners.
FIRST AID – We have our own medical team, consisting of lead paramedic, who has a team of first aid trained, medical professionals working under him, most of who will be taking part and as such will be out on course. They will be distinguishable by a yellow ‘MEDIC’ armband. If you require any medical attention or feel unwell, before, during, or immediately after the race, you should speak to one them.
MEDALS – All runners will receive a bespoke medal once they have finished. There will be trophy for the 1st placed male and female runners.
THE COURSE – As has been the case in previous years, the course consists of a number laps. The course map can be viewed by clicking here https://www.strava.com/routes/19753552
The loop off to the left of the filed/path is only run on the first lap, not on the 2nd and 3rd laps.
It is also important that the when running the grassy area at the southern end of Kenwood Road, runners go around the metal fence that surrounds the playground, before heading up Kenwood Road, to turn right into Wicor Path. When runners reach the end of Wicor Path, they could exercise caution as this road is open to traffic. ALL runners should cross the road at this point, before turning left and running on the pavement. NO runners are to run on the road on this segment.
